UPP’s 6 Simple Solutions For Immediate Relief

Gaston Browne claims the economy is growing, and he raised relief money – US$25 million from the CDB and US$160 million from yet another bond. That’s nearly ECD$500 million.

So why not put the money where the pain is, while stimulating the economy?

  • 4 ABST-reduction weekends to give consumers more spending power;
  • Lower fuel prices to help drivers save a little more at the pump;
  • If public servants are paid fair wages and their outstanding pack pay, this will help them manage the rising cost of living and benefit more from the tax-reduction weekends;
  • If vendors and service providers are paid, they can better position their enterprises to deliver more discounts and savings;
  • Economic conditions limit the options that are available to former LIAT and CAS employees. An advance payment on their severance would help them address outstanding debts or start businesses.
  • Reducing customs duties on certain foods would put more spending power in the pockets of the consumers

The UPP calls on the Browne administration to immediately deliver meaningful relief to the citizens and residents of Antigua and Barbuda.
